Pub trivia - a fun way to spend time with friends, drink beer, and maybe even find out which of your work colleagues knows too much about the Confederacy.
But every now and again, a trivia host will abuse their hosting power and inject too much of their own self interests into the night’s proceedings.
Brandon Heathrow, a 45-year old man and host of his local bar trivia night, did just that. He started off the night with a couple usual rounds of trivia:
Round 1 - 90’s Pop Culture
Round 2 - College Sports
Everything was going well until participants began to notice the trivia rounds become more specified with each passing round:
Round 3 - Yacht Rock
Round 4 - Kenny Loggins
Round 5 - Kenny Loggins 2003 Affair With Linda Heathrow
The local trivia-goers started to grow uncomfortable as their trivia host had changed the game on them. Said one trivia participant:
"It seemed like he shifted from quizzing us about pop culture to trying to see if anyone had information about his wife’s 2003 affair with Kenny Loggins.
I’m confused what value he thought we could provide."
But Brandon wouldn’t give up and led the trivia teams through two more intensely specific rounds of trivia:
Round 6 - Are Kenny Loggins’ Kids Good At Singing?
Round 7 - Paternity Test Labs Nearby
The trivia teams were frustrated with the specific categories, and collectively scored 2 points through the last three rounds. One participant complained:
"He started using us like we were Google. He was straining to make questions to justify the categories.
It was an exhausting night and, unfortunately, we paid for a babysitter to be here."
Shortly after the seventh round, Brandon was asked to leave the bar. He left peacefully and headed directly to the nearest paternity testing lab to find out he had been fathering Kenny Loggins’ child for the last two decades.
Lesson learned: don’t ask trivia questions you don’t want the answer to.
