During a MAGA rally on Sunday, roast comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, did a loose 12-minute set in which the consensus was that he bombed.
After a number of blatantly racist jokes, Republican politicians and newscasters made their voices heard, loud and clear: they will not stand for racist jokes that flop.
Going a step further, the GOP is now saying they are against blatantly racist jokes, in favor of a more subtle variety.
"It was too on the nose. I can’t defend that stuff like I can Trump’s material." - MAGA Supporter
Additionally, Trump’s campaign staff is now working hard to distance themselves from the comedian they vetted:
"We got Tony because he’s part of that tier of comedian-podcast-guy that is so good at those subtle racist jokes. Unfortunately, Tony went the route of the blatant racist joke, and it flopped. So, now I have to say, ‘Those jokes do not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.’" - Trump Campaign Staffer
As for the now disgraced comedian, Hinchcliffe is expected to go back to Austin and run his weekly show where he can joke with people who "have a sense of humor," and can laugh at his more on-the-nose style of jokes.
