NASCAR is a strategic sport that asks a lot of its drivers. It asks things like:
Can you push the pedal hard enough to go fast?
Can you hold your bladder for the next 4 hours?
It’s a sport played on the margins and it can be hard to find an advantage over your opponent, but one NASCAR driver is changing that.
Ty Chubb, a driver sponsored by Precious Moments, tried a new tactic at the most recent NASCAR race: honking his horn.
“To my surprise, everyone just moved over.
I’d never thought of honking in a race, until one moment I was just so frustrated that I honked the horn and yelled “COMING THROUGH!”
Everyone let me by.”
Chubb won the race by “a country mile” - the standard unit of measurement for NASCAR.
He plans to use the tactic in future races, though NASCAR fans have expressed concern that their beloved sport could morph into something resembling rush hour traffic more than a car race.
