“Law and order is back!” tweeted a MAGA man in celebration of the arrest of a county judge.
It’s a day he’s long awaited: the arrest of a government worker who is contributing to the “waste, fraud and abuse” he’s heard so much about.
He was starting to believe that maybe this was all made up - maybe there was no fraud. But, just in the nick of time, an arrest was made! What luck! Maybe this is even a member of the Deep State!
It’s reminiscent of Christmas morning for him. When he was a child, kids on the playground would try to tell him “Santa’s not real,” but lo and behold, on Christmas morning there was always a gift under the tree from Santa. Those idiots.
The child grew into an angry man who had been so mad for so long, but on this morning, he now has a target at which he can direct his ire; the hate he’s held onto this whole time is now justified.
He knew Trump would come through, and together, they just can’t stop winning.
But wait…
Something’s off.
This MAGA man was once a proper Republican.
In middle school, he would recite the Republican opinions he heard at home with such conviction: “Welfare is just de-incentivizing people to work hard.”
In high school, he would purchase his first car with his own money his grandfather gifted him, and would place a “Don’t Tread On Me,” sticker on the back window.
In college, he would lead a Young Republicans club where he was proud to get 500 signatures in support of California Proposition 8.
This is who he used to be: a hardworking Republican who never wanted government to get too big or powerful.
And now he’s cheering on the F.B.I.?
Has he strayed so much from his lifelong Republican views that he now supports… big government?!?
What a catastrophe. The MAGA movement stripped this man of his limited government convictions, and morphed him into a cheerleader for big government agencies.
But wait…
What if it’s never been about that?
What if it’s never truly been about the size of government?
Perhaps the man never really enjoyed the fact that the government was small and limited. Maybe, what the man truly enjoyed was the fact that the small, limited government could help him implement his small, limited ideas.
Eureka!
If the size of government was always just a means to an end, and now it’s possible to just arrest a judge or deport a legal resident, the man asks himself…
is Big Government so bad?
