Hidden Clause In Big Beautiful Bill States 'Poor People Don’t Exist If You Don’t Look Them In The Eye'
America First... not them, though.
After Congress passed the Big Beautiful Bill on Thursday, many of the smaller details are now coming to light. One such detail garnering attention states that "any poor person not looked directly in the eye does not exist."
The clause provides politicians and constituents alike a moral justification to cutting social safety nets, while also providing the architects of the bill convenient fiscal savings as well.
It’s what Republican senators and representatives call a "win-win."
The clause was intended to be hidden, but when pesky human rights activists highlighted the tucked away detail, politicians had to answer for it:
"The nation has an average reading comprehension level of 6th grade, so is it really unfair to say that our object permanence level cannot be that of a toddler, and extend to vulnerable human beings?"
- Mike Johnson
"I’ve not read it entirely yet, so I can’t speak to that part specifically, but it sounds in line with the sort of ‘fuck ‘em’ approach that we’re after."
- Lauren Boebert
"I did read it, and I fully support the clause because if I can’t see you with my own two eyes, why should I pay money for you? It’s as simple as that. It’s America First, but don’t go crazy."
- Marjorie Taylor Greene
