Fun's Over: Youth Pastor Presents His Order for Oppenheimer/Barbie Double Feature
"Let's throw in Sound of Freedom and make it a triple feature."
During a Wednesday night bible study, a local Baptist youth group pastor began his message in an unfamiliar and unwelcome way: secular talk.
The goateed pastor decided to weigh in on the following viral debate: In which order should one watch the upcoming films "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie" in a theoretical double-feature? The eye-roll's began immediately when the pastor started with a lighthearted, "Given the films are not watched on a Sunday...". He then interrupted his answer to say, "and, in fact, I'd throw in Sound of Freedom to make it a triple-feature." The pity laughs sprinkled in ever so lightly.
The pastor then gave his answer - a string of words he clearly ripped from someone else: "Now why would you have dessert before dinner? The order I'd watch them is Oppenheimer first and then Barbie."
Gross.
The answer was perfectly fair, however, his proximity to online culture was too jarring for the teens in attendance. When asked for comment, one 15-year-old girl said, "Stay in your lane." Another stated, "The idea of him watching a Greta Gerwig movie with Margot Robbie.. it's just too much to handle. He should spend his weekends at home or playing a backyard sport."
Realizing he had lost the crowd, the youth pastor quickly pivoted to his message: "You know, sometimes in life we are given choices. One might seem fun and easy; the other may seem dreary, dark, and long...".
