Ego Forces Man Into Aimless Guess Of What Total Solar Eclipse Is
"Well, I know it's not an annular eclipse, so..."
As the United States is gearing up for a special view of the total solar eclipse, some are facing a particularly tricky issue: ego forcing them to stumble through an explanation of a total solar eclipse.
One area man, Kyle Donner, was at a dinner party when he was asked the question: "What is a total solar eclipse?"
"I immediately didn't have the answer, but had to say something... my ego needed me to be the first to speak, but wouldn't allow me to say 'I'm not sure'," said Donner.
He mumbled his way through vague terms he remembered from middle school science before he said, "I'll be right back," and made his way to the kitchen for a much needed study break.
Donner pulled out his phone and quickly Googled, "total solar eclipse." To his dismay, he found information on all sorts of eclipses: solar eclipses, lunar eclipses, total solar eclipses, and annular solar eclipses. While he didn't have the time to read up on what each of those, he had equipped himself with new terminology to throw in his next conversation about the eclipse.
When Donner rejoined the dinner party, he entered with the confidence of someone who had new words at his disposal. Recognizing the conversation was still on the eclipse, Donner was able to throw in one last statement to show everyone his knowledge of eclipses: "Well, I know it's not an annular eclipse, so...".
