After LeBron James Reaches 40,000 Career Points, The Pressure Is On To Reach The Next Largest Round Number: 41,000 Points
The 'Race to 41,000' has begun!
LeBron James became the all-time NBA scoring champion last season when he scored his 38,388th point, surpassing legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Now, he's bested that milestone by scoring a nice big ol' round number: 40,000 points. So, what's next for James?
40,093 points? Boring - we don't care about that.
40,597 points? Nice try - that's an ugly, odd number.
40, 981 points? Put me to sleep... forever!
How about 41,000 points? Now we're talking. 41,000 points feels electric; it's another nice big ol' round number that gets us excited. NBA fans aren't the only ones excited about these new, big, round numbers. NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, had this to say about LeBron James' upcoming milestones:
"Now that LeBron has reached 40,000 points, we have to start looking ahead. I asked myself, 'What's the next biggest round number LeBron could reach?' and, naturally, 41,000 points felt right. So, you can soon expect to see a new graphic on all broadcasts: The Race to 41,000."
LeBron James is expected to reach 41,000 points sometime early next season. As for what comes after that, Commissioner Silver has some ideas:
"After the 41,000 points is reached, we do have a couple ideas for new numbers, but we're keeping those close to the chest for now."
