A Republican’s Guide to Talking About The Big Beautiful Bill
It’s Big, it’s Beautiful, but we should start strategizing on how to defend it.
Welp, we may be in a pickle here.
The Big Beautiful Bill was passed by the House last week and the contents don’t exactly look great for Republicans.
They look fantastic for President Trump, but not so much for everyday Republicans.
However, going to bat for people who don’t have our best interests in mind is the American way, and gosh darn it if we’re not patriots.
So, let’s review what’s in this bill, and a few different ways we can talk our way out of it, lest we embarrass ourselves:
Spending
Uh oh.
Turns out we’re maybe not fiscally conservative after all.
After spending an entire presidential campaign talking about cutting back on spending and balancing the budget, this bill seeks to add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years.
Surely Elon Musk’s efforts at DOGE should help offset that though, right?
Uh oh.
Okay, so Elon’s out.
So, how do we defend this massive spending outlined in the bill?
We don’t! If any non-Republican asks, about the spending in the bill, just flip it on them by saying, “Oh, I find it rich that now you care about the national debt.”
It’s a great tactic J.D. Vance uses a lot and it’s called deflection.
States’ Rights
States’ rights are political powers held by the state government rather than the federal government.
States’ rights are something we care about a whole lot, particularly when we don’t agree with federal rulings.
Welp, unfortunately the Big Beautiful Bill bans states from enforcing their own laws restricting or limiting the use of AI in political campaigns and elections.
There are 19 states with such laws, and the Big Beautiful Bill will ban states from enforcing those laws for 10 years.
So, how do we defend this? We’re states’ rights people after all!
Well, whenever we’re in favor of something being controlled federally, use the term “crackdown.”
“We need to crackdown on AI!”
See! Sounds great! It sounds like you know what you’re talking about!
BONUS: Whenever we’re in favor of something being decided at the state level, use the term “government overreach” or “Communism.”
Tax Cuts for the Wealthy
This ‘ol gem.
Republicans giving tax cuts to the upper class is a tale as old as time, so if you’ve been around the block before, feel free to skip this section (you know the drill).
However, if this is your first time defending tax cuts for the wealthy, here are some phrases you can throw out at any given time to hold you over until you can leave the room:
“Oh, so we’re penalizing billionaires for their hard work?”
“Reganomics does work! We just need patience to let the wealth trickle down.”
“They’re freeloaders. Problem is no one wants to work anymore.”
These are just a few of the items within the Big Beautiful Bill, and hopefully some good tips to defend them.
I’ll be sure to circle back with more tips once I finish reading this thing.
