“A Real Pain” Pancakes at IHOP Kick Off Oscar FYC Season
Marking the first time an IHOP menu is themed after an adult drama.
Today IHOP announced the arrival of its new menu items inspired by the film A Real Pain.
IHOP often offers special themed menus - typically for children’s films - but this marks the first time an IHOP menu is based on an adult drama about tracing family roots during the Holocaust.
The film follows two cousins traveling through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother and, according to Searchlight Pictures, is fertile ground for breakfast puns.
The items announced for the menu include “Heritage Tour Hash” and “Grandma’s Gooey Cinn-A-Stack.”
The film-themed menu items are an indicator of the season we’re currently in: Oscar FYC season.
That being the case, Searchlight Pictures and IHOP made sure to include menu items that explicitly mention the actor’s names. Those items being “Kieren Culkin Crepes” and “Jesse Eisenberg’s Messy Fries & Burg.”
Whether this awards campaign strategy will be a success is yet to be determined. All data we have currently is purely anecdotal, including one quote from a mother leaving the restaurant who said:
“I suppose we were disappointed by the choice of movie? We have no idea what that is and it doesn’t seem particularly fun.
I had to tell my children that “Cinna-Minion Pancakes” are now called “Grandma’s Gooey Cinn-A-Stack” and they don’t really like that.”
A Real Pain is playing in select theaters now, and the themed menu will be available at IHOP for a limited time.
