4-Year-Old Lakers Fan Gets Renewed Sense of Hope He’ll See Championship in His Lifetime
“All I’ve known is a Lakers team that could never quite get over the hump.”
A local 4-year-old is feeling a newfound optimism for his favorite LA team after a recent trade for a superstar.
On Saturday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers traded away Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks and received NBA and world talent, Luka Dončić, in return.
The trade has been quite controversial, but one long-suffering, 4-year-old Lakers fan is just relieved to have hope again:
“All I’ve known is a Lakers team that could never quite get over the hump.
It’s been a long time coming. You gotta realize because of how young I am, my hours are like your days; time is just longer for a guy my age, so I’ve been waiting quite a while for this one.”
While the trade is just the lucky break this fandom needs, the 4-year-old is quick to say that it’s not all roses right away:
“Look, the trade may not pay off this year, that’s okay. But I’m hopeful it’ll pay off the following year, and the year after that, and the year after that.
And if it doesn’t pay off in those next few years, I’m hopeful this organization can make the moves to get a Giannis or Jokic to pair with Luka.”
Of course the NBA is a business, but there are people at the center of it; people the fans grow to love.
“Lakers fans are mourning also,” said the toddler. “We had to give up Anthony Davis, and I think people are missing this next piece, we had to give up part of our future in Max Christie. It’s just not easy to trade guys like that.”
The 4-year-old fan is hopeful that the Lakers can win a title soon, but if not, he’ll look to his other favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys, to pick him up.
